Bunny Bunny Glam Jam 100th Jambilee

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Bunny Bunny Glam Jam 100th Jambilee, Space Bunnies vs The Bun-dead, takes place on Saturday, April 3rd at 550 Barneveld in San Francisco.

In 2010 Bunny Jam turned 100 and was pronounced dead and/or lost in space. Those who refused to die became Zombunnies, while others survived to merge with technology and wear shiny lamé pantsuits. On April 3^rd the Lapinzonia Space Colony is scheduled to collide with the Zombunny Disco Parlor & Rabbatoir in San Francisco. Coincidentally, there is also a massive Easter Basketroid headed straight towards planet Earth!!! For one night only, two worlds collide and the survival of Bunkind depends on U!

The rumor going around is that after 10 years this may be the last ever Bunny Jam.

New York City’s 25th Annual April Fool’s Day Parade

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Legendary prankster Joey Skaggs is organizing his 25th Annual April Fool’s Day Parade in New York City this Thursday, April 1st. The theme for this year’s parade is “Up, Up and Away”. Here’s the full press release issued by the New York April Fool’s Committee.

Led by Grand Marshall Ben Bernanke, the parade will kick off with the Where’s-the-Money Marching Band playing this year’s theme song by the Fifth Dimension “Up, Up and Away in My Beautiful Balloon.” Color commentary will be provided by Sarah Palin for her new Fox TV show “We Make It Up, You Believe It.” Thanks to a contribution by a secret donor in honor of the parade’s 25th anniversary, 10,000 red, white and blue helium balloons, each with a crisp one-dollar bill attached, will be released along the parade route.

LEGO Sculptures by Nathan Sawaya

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Nathan Sawaya is an artist in New York City who creates detailed and intricate sculptures using LEGO blocks. His bio explains:

Today, Sawaya has more than 1.5 million colored bricks in his New York art studio. His work is obsessively and painstakingly crafted and is both beautiful and playful. Sawaya’s ability to transform LEGO bricks into something new, his devotion to scale and color perfection, the way he conceptualizes the action of the subject matter, enables him to elevate an ordinary toy to the status of fine art.

According to journalist Scott Jones, “Sawaya is a surrealist mash-up of forms and artists. Imagine Frank Lloyd Wright crossed with Ray Harryhausen, or Auguste Rodin crossed with Shigeru Miyamoto, and you start to get a sense of where Sawaya is coming from.”

His first solo exhibit is on display at the Agora Gallery in New York City until April 13th. To see more examples of Nathan’s LEGO work, check out the gallery on his webpage.

Flattening The Streets Of San Francisco

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Photographer Dan Ng created this clever series of photographs in which he made San Francisco’s famously inclined streets appear level by tilting his camera. The results range from delightfully whimsical to surprisingly surreal.

What would San Francisco be without its steep hills?

Well for one, if would be much easier to walk around and without much effort. It would be easier to park a car and not have to curb the wheels. We would not have runaway vehicles and tennis balls.

On the other hand, we would not have cable cars, beautiful views and quaint neighborhoods. We would not have the many movies and postcard images to view. In fact, San Francisco would not be San Francisco.

By tilting the camera, I attempted to “level” the hills. These images whimsically portray the streets of San Francisco…flat. But thank goodness it isn’t!

Social Networking Pillows

Monday, March 29th, 2010

After years of resting our weary blogger heads on keyboards and netbooks, with visions of icons dancing through our heads, now we rejoice to see that finally a pillow suitable for the workspace has been created. Also, we can finally take out our frustration at Facebook with a few square punches without actually striking a monitor; we can also literally fling Gmail at someone who needs to get smacked upside the head with our unread thoughts — and no one actually gets hurt. Thank goodness for the Social Networking Pillows by Craftsquatch on Etsy. Now our cats can do what comes naturally and simultaneously act out our private impulses against MySpace all in one smooth movement.
